Day Four

Day Four

Hello and good morning.  How did you sleep?  Before we get started, I would like for you to stop what you are doing and tell me three things that you like about yourself.  Then listen as I tell you three things that I like about you.

Reading

1. Open this link and read Tess's Tree.  It is about a girl who loses the tree she loves but learns a lesson in the process.  I really like the illustrations!

2. Now, sit back and enjoy this story being read to you!

Chess

This painting is called Egyptian Chess Players.  It was painted by a man named Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema in 1865.

1. Go to Chess Kid and play a game of chess against the computer.  It is kind of tricky getting used to playing on the computer but it is great practice!  You will need to call me so I can help you get logged in.

Science

1.  Go to Brain Pop Jr. and watch the video about the digestive system.  When the video is over you can play the game that is below it.  Once you are done playing the game, you are ready to test your knowledge.  Press the button that says "Hard Quiz."  Don't forget to tell me how you did.

2.  Now, watch this video about bridges and what makes them so strong.

Alright!  You are half-way done with the day.  Are you getting hungry?  Well, you may go take a break, eat lunch, move around, and then come back ready to do the second half of your day!  If the weather is nice, you should take your lunch onto the balcony!

Welcome back!  Let's get started!

History

This is the Aztec calendar stone.  You will learn more about this next year!

1. You will be watching another full-length documentary.  Since you watched a video about the Transcontinental Railroad last week, it seems fitting that today you will watch a video about train robbers!  Go to PBS and watch the documentary about Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid.  WARNING: Grandpa will want to talk to you about this a lot!

2. Watch CNN Student News.

Math

1. Time for Xtramath!
2. Play Cash Out! and select easy.  Choose "no" for the other two options.  When you are done, you may play again on a harder level if you would like.
3. Play Number Bonds.  You may need me to explain how to play.  If you do, you may call me.
4. Here's a game that I am sure you will recognize. Play 2048 and then you are done!

That's all for today.  You are free to play Jack Smith.  Enjoy!
